Aftermarket Headunit Adapters for 2010-2015 Subaru Vehicles with Harman Kardon Audio

Have a 2010-2012 Legacy or Outback with factory navigation? You are in the right place - on those years navigation only came bundled with the Harman Kardon system, so this page covers your car too.

Harman Kardon cars are wired differently than the standard-audio version of the same model, so we build these packages per order. A typical package includes:

-A custom amplifier/backup camera harness that provides the amp turn-on and retains the backup camera and auxiliary input (28-pin style on most 2012-2015 models, 24-pin style on the 2010-2012 Legacy and Outback and some 2013 Outbacks) - typically $50-$60
-A Pioneer, Sony, or ATOTO direct wire main harness, modified to work with the Harman Kardon system - do not order the standard version separately; we include the modified one in your quote
-USB and AM/FM antenna adapters as needed for your year (the AM/FM adapter is already included with our ATOTO direct wire harnesses)
-A steering wheel control interface (Maestro SW) if your car has audio buttons on the wheel

2Why the standard adapters will not work

Two reasons: nothing in the standard adapter sets turns on the Harman Kardon amplifier (you would get no sound), and the connectors themselves are different - for example, the standard 20-pin adapter physically will not fit a 2012-2015 Harman Kardon car. If you already bought parts from the standard 2010-2015 page, contact us before installing them.

Prefer to ditch the factory amp? We can also build a bypass/replacement package that drives the speakers from your new headunit or an aftermarket amplifier - mention it in your email if you would rather go that route.

32010-2013 Legacy & Outback - the two amplified layouts

These years came in several radio configurations. The non-amplified cars are simple - the standard 20-pin page covers them. Heads up: the amplified non-nav radios usually do NOT say Harman Kardon anywhere on them - a color display screen in the dash is often the tell. The amplified cars come in two very different layouts:

Amplified/premium WITHOUT navigation: the amplifier turn-on is pin 3 of the 28-pin connector, and the rest of the install uses the 10-pin/6-pin adapter set. We usually build this with RCA connections for the amplifier - wired much like a 2015 WRX with Harman Kardon and navigation. On 2013 models the layout is about the same, except the backup camera connects through a custom hookup on the 28-pin connector.

WITH navigation (2010-2012): a 20-pin main connector with the amplifier turn-on on pin 23 of the 24-pin connector, an 8-pin backup camera connector, and a separate 6-pin connector that carries the reverse signal. This one is a fully custom build. (2013-2014 navigation models moved to the more standard 10-pin/6-pin setup - see the OEM Navigation page.)

The AM/FM antenna adapter also differs by configuration: 2010-2012 navigation cars use the extended 18-inch Subaru antenna adapter, 2013 navigation cars use the Toyota-style AM/FM and USB adapters, premium 10-pin/6-pin cars use the Toyota-style AM/FM adapter, and non-premium cars use a larger antenna connector with its own adapter.
