Where Is the DCM in a 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

The DCM — the Data Communication Module, part of Safety Connect / Connected Services — is the module our bypass harness plugs into. Finding it is the only tricky part of the install. Pick your vehicle and we will show you where it lives and what has to come apart to reach it.

Where it is

Behind the glovebox on the passenger side, but right over at the far outer end of the dash against the outside of the truck - not in the centre stack. It is sandwiched in among several other modules in that area, so look for the one with the matching connectors.

How it sits: It stands vertically behind the glovebox, so you are looking at the narrow edge of the module with the connectors down its side.

How to get to it

The factory procedure removes the ECM (the engine computer, mounted just in front of the DCM in the same outer-dash area) first, then the DCM with its bracket and the two telephone brackets. Expect to work by feel - it is a tight cavity shared with several other modules.

No SOS button near the rear-view mirror or overhead console means the vehicle was built without Safety Connect - there is no DCM to bypass and this kit is not needed.
