Where Is the DCM in a 2016 Toyota Tacoma?

The DCM — the Data Communication Module, part of Safety Connect / Connected Services — is the module our bypass harness plugs into. Finding it is the only tricky part of the install. Pick your vehicle and we will show you where it lives and what has to come apart to reach it.

Not sure whether your vehicle even has one? Look for an SOS or Call Toyota button near the rear-view mirror or in the overhead console. No button means no DCM — and no need for the bypass harness.

Short answer

There is no DCM in this truck - there is nothing to bypass.

No disassembly needed - your truck does not have the module this kit removes.

Why there is nothing to remove

Toyota's wiring diagrams for the 2016-2019 Tacoma show no DCM and no telematics system at all - Safety Connect was not part of these trucks. The DCM and its SOS button first appear on the 2020 model year. The same goes for the earlier trucks: no Tacoma before 2020 shows a telematics system on any diagram.

If you are worried about battery drain, privacy or subscription hardware on one of these trucks: there is nothing to disconnect. If you lost Bluetooth or a speaker after a stereo swap, that is head-unit wiring rather than a DCM problem - email us with what happened and we will point you at the right harness instead.

Quick check in the truck: no SOS button by the rear-view mirror or in the overhead console. That is how every 2016-2019 Tacoma left the factory.
