Where Is the DCM in a 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser?

The DCM — the Data Communication Module, part of Safety Connect / Connected Services — is the module our bypass harness plugs into. Finding it is the only tricky part of the install. Pick your vehicle and we will show you where it lives and what has to come apart to reach it.

Short answer

In the centre console, toward the rear.

Straightforward once you are in the right place - one trim panel from the back seat, no dash work and no airbag work. The hard part on this truck has only ever been finding the module, not reaching it.

DCM location photo - Toyota Land Cruiser — Start here, sitting in the back seat. This is the rear face of the centre console: the panel carrying the rear air vents and the rear climate controls is the one that comes off, and the DCM is directly behind it.

Where it is

Inside the centre console toward the REAR - and you reach it FROM THE BACK SEAT, not from the front. The module is mounted on the BACK of the cooler box, facing rearward, behind the console's rear face panel (the one carrying the rear air vents and the rear climate controls). Nothing in the dash has to come apart, and there is nothing to find from the front of the console. The module behind the head unit is the multi-media receiver, which is easy to mistake for the DCM once the stack is apart. What you are looking for is a plain silver box with its label facing you, reading TRANSCEIVER, TELEMATICS above a Toyota part number starting 86741. The suffix after 86741 varies between trucks of the same model year - we have seen both 86741-75012 and 86741-33020 on 2013s - so go by the 86741 prefix and the wording, not the full number. If the label does not say 86741, it is not the DCM.

How to get to it

Work from the BACK SEAT. The rear face of the centre console - the panel carrying the rear air vents and the rear climate controls - comes off, and the DCM is on the back of the cooler box directly behind it, label facing you. Do not start at the front of the console and do not take the dash apart: owners have stripped the front console, the centre stack and the glovebox on this truck and found nothing, because there is nothing there. Once the panel is off, the bypass plugs straight in - one owner reported under three minutes from that point. Confirmed by two owners who each did this job on a 2013 and sent us the photos below; the 200-series console is the same through the run.

No SOS button near the rear-view mirror or overhead console means the vehicle was built without Safety Connect - there is no DCM to bypass and this kit is not needed. Two things worth knowing on this truck: pulling a fuse is not a clean substitute - owners report losing the hands-free microphone along with the SOS function, and some of these trucks have no dedicated DCM fuse at all (the module shares a general ECU fuse). And if you ask Toyota's connected-services desk, you may be told your truck "has no Data Communication Module" - that is their newer naming. Safety Connect arrived on the Land Cruiser for 2010, and these trucks carry the telematics transceiver (Toyota part 86741) that this kit bypasses.
