Where Is the DCM in a 2020 Toyota Hilux?

The DCM — the Data Communication Module, part of Safety Connect / Connected Services — is the module our bypass harness plugs into. Finding it is the only tricky part of the install. Pick your vehicle and we will show you where it lives and what has to come apart to reach it.

Short answer

Directly behind the radio head unit, low in the centre stack.

Straightforward - it is the same job as pulling the radio. An Australian owner (a mechanic) called it a simple job, and had no warning lights or fault codes afterwards.

That is the set the AHH-DCM77 is built for. The orange block sitting above the module belongs to a different harness lying across it - it is not part of the DCM.

Where it is

Directly behind the radio head unit in the centre stack, bolted in with four small 10 mm bolts - once the head unit is out, the module is right there facing you. It is in the centre of the dash on right-hand-drive trucks too. It is a plain BLACK box, not the silver one you may have seen on American Toyotas - the European and Australian trucks use a different make of module that our adapter still fits. Identify it by the row of plugs along its bottom edge: a couple of small push-on aerial leads (one of them blue), a little square shielded socket, a small cream plug and a longer multi-pin plug at the right-hand end. The label reads TOYOTA above two part numbers starting 86740 and 86741.

How to get to it

The dash trim around the radio is held on by clips - unclip it (there are plenty of Hilux dash-removal videos on YouTube if you want to watch it done first). The head unit is held by four 10 mm screws: take those out and pull the radio. The DCM is directly behind it, held by four 10 mm bolts. Unplug it and unbolt it (it can come out of the truck completely), connect the AHH-DCM77 to the truck's plugs as the kit instructions show, then refit the radio and trim.

The Hilux is not sold in North America - this is the UK, European and Australian truck. No SOS or Call Toyota button near the rear-view mirror or overhead console means the vehicle was built without connected services, so there is no DCM to bypass and this kit is not needed. The position and the connector match are confirmed on a 2023 UK truck, and the kit has been fitted and is working on a 2023 Australian Hilux SR. That owner also pulled the 5 A DCM fuse labelled MAYDAY in the engine-bay fuse box - optional, the adapter does the job on its own. If you want the SOS buttons gone too, he fitted the overhead map-light console from a 2019 Hilux, which has no SOS switch - it is plug and play and purely cosmetic. The pre-2020 Hilux is the earlier facelift with different electrics and is not covered here, so email us before ordering for one of those.
