Where Is the DCM in a 2020 Toyota Hilux?

The DCM — the Data Communication Module, part of Safety Connect / Connected Services — is the module our bypass harness plugs into. Finding it is the only tricky part of the install. Pick your vehicle and we will show you where it lives and what has to come apart to reach it.

Not sure whether your vehicle even has one? Look for an SOS or Call Toyota button near the rear-view mirror or in the overhead console. No button means no DCM — and no need for the bypass harness.

What identifies it is the row of plugs along the bottom edge: a grey twin aerial lead, a blue aerial plug, a small square shielded socket, a cream plug with a yellow wire, and a longer multi-pin plug at the right-hand end. That is the set the AHH-DCM77 is built for. The orange block sitting above the module belongs to a different harness lying across it - it is not part of the DCM.

Where it is

Low in the centre stack, just under the radio head unit, tucked into the top of the centre console. It is a plain BLACK box, not the silver one you may have seen on American Toyotas - the European and Australian trucks use a different make of module that our adapter still fits. Identify it by the row of plugs along its bottom edge: a couple of small push-on aerial leads (one of them blue), a little square shielded socket, a small cream plug and a longer multi-pin plug at the right-hand end. The label reads TOYOTA above two part numbers starting 86740 and 86741.

How to get to it

We do not have a factory removal procedure for this truck and we are not going to invent one. The Hilux is not a US model, and the Toyota manual we can get hold of covers the Thai and South African built trucks with no telematics section in it at all. The owner who found the module did not record what came apart to reach it. What we can tell you is where to aim: the base of the centre stack, under the head unit. The Hilux is not sold in North America - this is the UK, European and Australian truck. No SOS or Call Toyota button near the rear-view mirror or overhead console means the vehicle was built without connected services, so there is no DCM to bypass and this kit is not needed. The position and the connector match are confirmed on a 2023 UK truck. The pre-2020 Hilux is the earlier facelift with different electrics and is not covered here, so email us before ordering for one of those.
