Where Is the DCM in a 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander?

The DCM — the Data Communication Module, part of Safety Connect / Connected Services — is the module our bypass harness plugs into. Finding it is the only tricky part of the install. Pick your vehicle and we will show you where it lives and what has to come apart to reach it.

Not sure whether your vehicle even has one? Look for an SOS or Call Toyota button near the rear-view mirror or in the overhead console. No button means no DCM — and no need for the bypass harness.

Short answer

In the lower dash on the driver's side, above the gas pedal.

Moderate to hard - one owner did it from the trim below the airbag with the steering wheel raised, without removing the airbag. The factory procedure removes the airbag assembly.

DCM location photo - Toyota Grand Highlander — The lower trim panel below the driver's knee airbag, above the pedals. The owner says it is held by 3 Phillips screws and 2 plastic clips; once they are out it stays hanging on its wiring and drops far enough to get a hand in behind it.

Where it is

In the lower dash on the driver's side, above the accelerator pedal (confirmed by an owner on a 2026 Grand Highlander, 2026-10-30). It is not below the head unit and not behind the centre console.

How to get to it

One owner reached it without removing the knee airbag: take off the piece of lower trim below the knee airbag, raise the steering wheel as high as it goes, and reach the module through the steering wheel opening (he used a chopstick). If you cannot reach it that way, the factory procedure is: Remove, in order: the door sill plate, the driver-side kick panel, the under cover (3 screws), the end cap, the lower finish panel and the long knee pad strip, then the driver's knee airbag (4 bolts and one airbag plug). Handle the airbag carefully and do not pull on its wiring. The DCM sits on a bracket held by 2 nuts right behind it.

No SOS button near the rear-view mirror or overhead console means the vehicle was built without Safety Connect - there is no DCM to bypass and this kit is not needed.
