Where Is the DCM in a 2017 Subaru Impreza?

The DCM — the Data Communication Module, part of Safety Connect / Connected Services — is the module our bypass harness plugs into. Finding it is the only tricky part of the install. Pick your vehicle and we will show you where it lives and what has to come apart to reach it.

Not sure whether your vehicle even has one? Look for an SOS or Call Toyota button near the rear-view mirror or in the overhead console. No button means no DCM — and no need for the bypass harness.

Short answer

Mounted on the same chassis as the radio head unit, directly below it.

Straightforward - it is the same job as pulling the radio out. Nothing else in the dash has to come apart.

Where it is

The telematics module is bolted to the radio's own chassis, directly below the head unit, so it comes out of the dash with the radio rather than sitting somewhere else in the car. Pull the head unit out and the module is right there on the same bracket; unbolt it from the radio and unplug its connectors. Fitting an aftermarket head unit is usually what forces the issue - the module often will not fit back in behind the new radio.

How to get to it

Take the trim off around the radio and unbolt the head unit. The module comes out with it on the same bracket - unbolt it from the radio, unplug its connectors and plug the bypass in their place. No other trim has to come apart.

Not every car in this range was built with STARLINK connected services: no SOS button near the map lights means no DCM and nothing to bypass. The bypass is built to order - the customer gives the year, model and head unit at checkout and the right connector set is built for it.

The bypass harness for this vehicle

Our bypass kit disconnects the DCM without losing your front right speaker or the hands-free Bluetooth microphone — the two things that stop working if you simply unplug the module.

This vehicle takes one of two harnesses. Option 1 (AHH-7747) for an aftermarket head unit with its own microphone; Option 2 (AHH-7747B) to keep the factory radio and microphone. Both are built to order from the year, model and head unit given at checkout.
