2022-2026 Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 Aftermarket Radio Install (38-pin connector)

The 2022 and newer Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 have three connectors behind the factory radio:

38-pin - reverse signal, steering wheel buttons, backup camera, CAN bus, microphones and USB
10-pin and 6-pin - power, ground and the speakers

The 28-pin parts sold for the 2013-2020 car do not fit - the 2022 and newer car does not have that connector. That includes the 2013-2020 complete kit and the 28-pin backup camera / steering wheel adapter. The radio wiring is the same from 2022 through 2026 (there was no 2021 model), so everything on this page covers every year of the BRZ and GR86.

Good news on the climate controls: unlike the tablet-style units in most newer Subaru models, the BRZ's heat and A/C controls are NOT integrated into the radio. The factory wiring diagrams show a separate A/C control panel (the physical dials below the radio) that runs the HVAC system on its own - so replacing the radio does not affect your climate controls. This is one of the few newer Subaru models where a full radio replacement is still practical.

AM/FM radio adapter - retains the factory antenna (these cars need a modified version of our Subaru antenna adapter, included in the kit - do not order the standard one)
Backup camera retention - connects the factory camera to your new headunit
Steering wheel button connections - pre-wired to a connector for the Maestro SW interface module. The Maestro SW module is purchased separately HERE - it plugs right in.
Audio - speaker, power, and ground connections wired for your new headunit

USB: there is no USB retention adapter for these models. Plan on running the USB cable that comes with your new headunit from the back of the unit instead.

2Building your own wiring instead

10-pin and 6-pin (power, ground and speakers): our AHH-70-1761 direct wire harnesses and the Metra 70-1761 plug into these, with one change. On the 2013-2020 car the factory amplifier is turned on by pin 9 of the 10-pin, so these harnesses put your headunit's amp turn-on (remote) wire on pin 9. On the 2022 and newer car, pin 9 is a constant 12V battery feed and the amp and antenna turn-on is pin 8. Move the amp turn-on wire from pin 9 to pin 8 before you plug it in - or put "2022+ BRZ/GR86" in the order notes at checkout and we will make the change for you.

38-pin (camera, reverse, steering wheel buttons, CAN bus): the 38-pin jumper adapter is the building block for custom work on this connector. It carries no power or speaker wires - those are on the 10-pin and 6-pin above.

AM/FM radio: these cars need a modified version of our AM/FM antenna adapter, so do not order the standard one. It is included in the complete kit above; building your own, email us and we will send the right one.

USB: no USB retention adapter exists for these cars - run your headunit's own USB cable.

Steering wheel buttons: these need the iDatalink Maestro SW interface module - it is sold separately HERE.

3Starlink / telematics module

If your car has the SOS button up near the map lights, it has a telematics module. It is bolted to the radio's chassis, directly below the head unit, and usually will not fit back in behind an aftermarket radio. Our bypass plug lets you leave it out - it is sold HERE, built to order for your year and head unit. No SOS button means no module and nothing to bypass.
